DAVID FINCHER

David Fincher was born in Denver, Colorado in 1962. In 1980 David saw George Lucas' The Empire Strikes Back. This experience gave him a new outlook towards film and helped drive him to his own style of filmmaking. David has been making movies since he was 8 years old. In order to get more experience in the field he started working at an animation company loading cameras. Finally at age 18, Fincher went to work at George Lucas' Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) where he worked for four years. During his stint at ILM he had the opportunity to work on Return of the Jedi (1983) and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984). He then left ILM to make TV commercials, his first of which was for The American Cancer Society. He has also directed many music videos for musicians such as Aerosmith, Madonna and Paula Abdul, six of which have made the MTV's Top 100 list.
Fincher made his feature film directorial debut with Alien³ (1992). Unfortunately the film was not a pleasant experience for Fincher, having had a difficult time with the people at 20th Century Fox. On top of that the film was not well received by critics and movie goers alike. This negative experience pushed Fincher back into the world of commercial and music video directing. Fate finally came knocking on Fincher's door with Andrew Kevin Walker's screenplay for a grisly detective story titled Seven (1995). Seven got Fincher the critical acclaim that he needed to really launch his film career. Catapulted partially by Brad Pitt's star power the movie rocketed past the $100 million mark, granting Fincher great position for future work in Hollywood.

In 1997 David Fincher released his third film The Game (1997). The Game furthered Fincher's success with yet another ground breaking film. Fincher quickly became a top pick for Hollywood studios, and with a visual style unlike any other in Hollywood, Fincher quickly became a favorite director among film buffs everywhere. Next, with Fight Club (1999), Fincher proved he had matured in his style. A modern masterpiece, Fight Club drew much controversy for its violent content and "antisocial" characters. Fight Club was short-lived in theaters; not quite making back its budgeted cost, until it hit oversees markets and was welcomed onto home video. Fight Club has since made well over its necessary numbers and continues to build cult following. It will no doubt go down in film history as one of the all-time most underrated movies. Now with the future over the horizon Fincher has started a production company, Indelible Pictures, with producer Art Linson in association with New Line Cinemas. This means that David will have to direct at least one more movie for New Line under his own company name and produce at least a couple more. This gives Fincher fans more than one reason to rejoice.

March 29th marks the release of David's 5th studio picture, Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster.
